Highway Safety and Over the Road Trucking

There are a lot of problems in highway safety and the Over the Road Trucking Industry.  Here are just a few that need immediate attention.

Our bridges and tunnels, along with many freeways, streets, and roads, are greatly in need of repair.

Stop lights currently do not give enough notice for vehicles to safely stop before the light turns red.  The yellow light should flash on for one second and off for a half second three times before going to solid yellow.  Likewise the red should flash on for one second and off for a half second during the solid yellow before going to solid red.  This will give drivers plenty of notice and a specific standard for preparing to stop.

In heavily congested truck traffic areas like the interstate through most major cities make at least one truck safety lane on the far left/centermost side on the highway.  This lane would be two feet wider than normal lanes.  It would also be for heavy trucks only and would allow trucks to allow for a safe stopping distance between trucks without 4 wheelers constantly filling the space.

Make city street corners on truck routes round enough so a truck with a 53' trailer can make the corner while staying in its lane without going over the curb.

Any bridge that is less than 14' should have the front painted yellow and black with its actual height clearly marked on it.  If less than 13'6" it should also have at least two flashing lights.
